WHAT IS AREDS? AND WHY “AREDS 2 PLUS”?
The Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS 1 & 2) are major clinical trials sponsored by the National Eye Institute. The AREDS studies were designed to evaluate the effect of vitamins on the progression of AMD and cataracts. Certain vitamins were shown to slow the progression of intermediate to advanced AMD.
AREDS 2 PLUS is added to the ESSENTIALS name due to improvements made to the formulation after extensive research, enhancing AREDS.

Lutein
One of the most important carotenoids deposited in the macula, the most sensitive part of the retina. MACULA 2® ESSENTIALS contains double the amount of lutein recommended in AREDS 2, which also helps supply meso-zeaxanthin naturally.
Flaxseed Oil
800 mg per day, rich in B-complex vitamins, supporting eye and overall health.
Vitamin D
Critical for eye health. Many adults, especially those with AMD, are deficient in vitamin D.
Zinc
At 20 mg per day, MACULA 2® ESSENTIALS stays well within safe limits, compared to higher doses in AREDS studies which sometimes caused urinary complications.
Vitamin E
